Next up The Beat Movement (TBM) took to the stage. Led by Mark MacLean on Vocals and Guitar, TBM are a four piece I first heard live back in May at a Creation Sessions night. Since then I have been enjoying their song ‘Coming After You’ after downloading it for free from Pete MacLeod’s Stepping Stone Music page. As the lads battered through their set Lead Guitarist Lyall Mooney again caught the ear with his big licks and backed by Chris McEwan on Bass and Chris Heron on Drums TBM confirmed my previous impression of them being a great live band. Having also heard the catchy as feck ‘Love The Tide’ a good few times before, the track was a stand-out with MacLean in fine voice. Having now got my hands on a copy of TBM current EP Another Piece Of The Puzzle I’m pretty sure I will be raving about more of their tunes in the coming months.
Headliner The Calm Fiasco followed and as I chatted to a few familiar faces in the crowd I couldn’t help but think…the Gramotones would have gone down a storm on this particular night. Having heard a lot of positive things about upcoming band The Calm Fiasco I was expecting perhaps too much and found the band struggled to ignite the crowd to the levels set by TBM. That said, the band is evidently a tight unit and did enough to keep the majority of punters paying £4 plus a pint until the end of their set.
