Steve Cradock - Glasgow - Oran Mor - Wednesday 30 October 2013
As a huge fan of OCS, Weller and Cradock's solo material, this was a gig I was not going to miss! When Steve toured his previous album Peace City West I was lucky enough to see him at Stirling Tolbooth, Bathgate Attic and the Admiral Bar in Glasgow. This gig did not disappoint with a fantastic opening set from the talented Gramotones and The Cradock Band belting out previous gems from both Peace City West and the Kundalini Target as well as material from the "new album" Travel Wild Travel Free.
Around 9.00 pm Steve took the stage with his band consisting of Tony Coote (Playboy Club London), Andy Flynn, Jake (from the Gramotones) and wife Sally Cradock. The set opens with Last Days of the Old World and instantly the crowd responds and there is some good 2-way banter with the Steve and the crowd from the off-set. Next up is the title track from the "new album" Travel Wild Travel Free followed by the breezy Any Way the Wind Blows. The vocals sound great with both Steve and Sally Cradock on form and complementing each other vocally throughout the set. Fittingly there is a track dedicated to the late Lou Reed as the set kicks-on with the new material sounding great with Pleasure Seekers, I am the Sea, Shear Inertia, Street Fire, Magic Hour, Dreaming my Life Away and Doodle Book all getting a run out. Pleasing I eventually get to hear I-Man live as Steve and his band bring the set to a rousing close!
Until the next time....
