Ocean Colour Scene - Glasgow - Barrowland - Saturday 7 December 2013
There are certain combinations I love in life…vodka and coke, gin and tonic and well Ocean Colour Scene and the Barrowlands! After attending and loving the OCS Mosely Shoals anniversary tour a few years back at the Barras, I had been hoping for a similar tour for Marchin’ Already and was absolutely pumped when I heard earlier in the year this was going to happen. For me, the gig being on a Saturday night added an extra dimension as I could afford to kick-back enjoy myself and not get out of bed for work the next day - always a bonus!
With no support act it was a slightly unusual build-up but you could literally feel the energy building up in the crowd and by the time OCS took the stage there were goose-bumps on my neck and the full place was bouncing like only the Barrowland can. If you were there, I believe it was one of those moments, you will know what I mean!
From the moment Steve Cradock picked up his guitar and belted into Hundred Mile High City the atmosphere was electric. As the tour promised OCS delivered the album in full with all the big singles…Better Day, Travellers Tune and It’s a Beautiful Thing being played as well as some of my own favourites Get Blown Away, Spark and Cindy and Foxy’s Folk Faced all getting a run out!
Similar to the Moseley Shoals tour the band then treated their fans to a number of their greatest hits and fans favourites including The Circle, Profit and Peace, Robin Hood and finally The Day We Caught the Train. The love appeared two-way with the band responding to the crowd and vice versa. Magical…seriously it was that good!
For many fans it was a chance to reminisce back to those 3 nights at Stirling Castle when Ocean Colour Scene cemented their lasting relationship with their Scottish fan base with 3 shows that are still talked about to this day. Here’s hoping the success of this tour in Scotland may just tempt OCS back to Stirling Castle to give their fans and newer band members (Andy Bennett and Dan Sealey) some new stories to talk about!
Fowler, Cradock, Harrison, Bennett and Sealey …Barrowlands salutes you!
Until the next time….
