The Rock Bottoms - Stirling - Drouthy Neebors - Friday 6 February 2015
Other than a couple of James gigs last year, for me personally this was the first bit of decent live music to hit Stirling since the visit of Adam and Dan’s other band Merrymouth when they played Tolbooth last year.
With Dan also being the bass player for Ocean Colour Scene for the last 10 years tonight’s gig promised songs from the back-catalogue of both OCS and Merrymouth as well as a selection of covers from artists ranging from The Travelling Wilburys and The Who right through to Billy Joel.
Local and up-coming singer songwriter Kieran Fisher opened the evening with a well-balanced blend of covers and his own music. With a debut single due to drop in the next few months; Kieran is a name you may well hear again in the near future.

The set by Dan and Adam (The Rock Bottoms) was a blinder from start to finish with Merrymouth tracks ‘Duchess’ and ‘Blink Of An Eye’ being stand-outs. OCS fans in attendance were also not left disappointed with ‘The Circle’, ‘Mechanical Wonder’ and ‘Travellers Tune’ getting everyone singing along.
The covers on offer were also top-drawer with ‘Squeeze Box’ by The Who and The Travelling Wilburys ‘Handle With Care’ being two of my own highlights. For me the pick of the covers was ‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel and well worth venturing out in the cold night for in itself.
Towards the end of the evening, Dan and Adam took it up a notch with ‘The Riverboat Song’ and ‘The Day We Caught The Train’. All in, a fantastic evening of entertainment and I hope it is not too long before we see the return of The Rock Bottoms to Stirling.
The Rock Bottoms are due back in Scotland for a gig in Kilmarnock in March and more information can be found on The Rock Bottoms Facebook page.
